Mission
Aktive, a non-profit organization, is compromised of non-active gang members - not to be
confused with ex-gang members. (An ex-gang member cuts ties with everyone in the gang. A
non-active member cuts all criminal activity, but keeps influential social ties, which enable him to
keep his status, which is essential for communication with active gang members.) The goal of
the organization is for non-active gang members to use this influence and open communication
to help active gang members to:

1) Cease all criminal activity
2) Seek and pursue resources that lead to a positive and productive lifestyle
3) Atone for past negative actions through positive deeds that support the well-being of
their communities (especially the youth)
4) Harboring career skills through film workshops

Aktive, has managed to keep extensive relationships in specific neighborhoods and with
individual bangers in Los Angeles, as well as across the country. It has been successful in
employing active bangers with hand-to-hand giveaways of backpacks, food and toy drives.
When bangers work with Aktive, they become non-active. The organization serves as a vehicle
for them to give back to the community. Aktive, the movement, was founded by Filmmaker/ Actor/ Activist Cle “Bone” Sloan, who is the director of the critically acclaimed award winning new HBO documentary “Bastards of the Party”, which focuses on the history and evolution of Los Angeles street gangs including the Bloods and Crips. The film received critical acclaim in several film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival, and the best documentary prize at the American Black Film festival.

The documentary has made a huge and positive impact in public schools, universities, and local government where it has screened as an educational and gang prevention tool. As a well-known non-active banger, who was once very active in negative behaviors on the streets of Los Angeles. Bone managed to change his life drastically through a program similar to Aktive. His transformation came through the arts. Through this program, was given a job on a feature film as a production assistant rising in the ranks to camera assistant. Shortly after that, Bone started doing commercials. Five commercials and four movies later, he become a recognized actor. In 2001, Bone played opposite Denzel Washington in Training Day, for which Washington received an Academy Award. The film centers on activities in Sloan’s old neighborhood.

Currently, this award winning director/actor/writer is teaching non-active gang members the art of filmmaking (e.g. lighting, film speed, directing, etc.). His companion novel Bastards of the Party- The Evolution of Bangin’”, is sure to be a curriculum favorite upon its release summer 07. In Bone’s words, “Film saved my life. ”Through Aktive, he is hoping to introduce bangers to a future in the arts, filmmaking and other careers. He also encourages them to atone for their past by helping the community through Aktive charitable events. For more information, contact Charles Finely, at 310-990-8373 or cfinleyjr@yahoo.com .
